So I have been having computer/electrical problems with my car since I bought it last fall. Mechanical problems are no issue, but computer stuff stumps me. The car is a 2008 Dodge Charger police car with 60K miles on it.

Kinja'd!!!

So issue #1 is that as I am driving the ABS, TC, stability control, and check engine light come on when I am driving. Sometimes it happens everytime I drive, sometimes its once a week. Sometimes it goes away on its own as I am driving, other times I will disconnect the battery to reset. Sometimes it will prevent the car from shifting and sometimes the speedometer will completely stop. Sometimes If I stop and try to restart the car it will get locked into park until I disconnect the battery. There is no pattern of when it will come on based on road conditions, my driving, or anything I can find. I have a code scanner and it showed:

Dodge OEM Enhanced:

Dodge Engine U1120 Lost Wheel Distance Message

Dodge Engine U0121 Lost Communication with Anti-Lock Brake Module

Dodge Engine U1110 Lost Vehicle Speed Message

Dodge Transmission U0121 Lost Communication with Anti-Lock Brake Module

ABS C2200 Anti-Lock Brake Module Internal

Is this as easy as just replacing the ABS Module and Speed Sensors, or could this be the whole Front Control Module? Could there be a short or grounding issue somewhere?

Issue #2 is with the NAG1/W5A580 transmission. There is a vibration in the transmission that I find very disturbing. Other people that have ridden with me don’t really notice it. It’s the worst about 30-35 mph. When I turn the Autostick on it will immediately go away. Same gear, same speed, same rpm, but no more vibration. Since the autostick shifts itself anyway I just leave it there now. But does this sound like a software problem or could something mechanical be causing it?

Thank you all for listening and any help would be greatly appreciated before I start ordering parts.

When in doubt, blame the TIPM.

Sounds kind of like a trans problem that may have barfed stuff into the trans output sensor, thus cacking the rear axle speed measurement for ABS purposes and causing other issues. I’m not an expert, though.

I had to look up what that is and God I hope thats not it. Reading about the lawsuits over that sounds like Chrysler fucked up good.

That would be nice if it was something like that, shouldn’t be too hard to check out either. I hate that there are so many sensors on this car to chase down problems. Thanks.

Yup. I used to want a Wrangler. Not after I found out what a clusterf*** the TIPM is.

This is by far the newest car I’ve ever had and reminds me why I never wanted a newer car. I used to be a huge fan of Chrysler but this car is really hurting that.

I had my TIPM replaced two or three years ago to the sound of $1,000. I haven’t kept up with the lawsuit, but hope to one day be compensated.

Replacing the TIPM isn't *that* hard, is basically just disconnecting and reconnecting wires. I'd buy a reman one and see what happens. If it doesn't fix your ish, return it.

Wiring issue or abs issue. Can you check the pids on the wheel speed sensors?

I was just looking them up online and they really aren’t too expensive, worth a shot.

My scanner isn’t that fancy unfortunately.

If it was me, I’d take it to a dealer. Then go from there.

Issue #2 is related to issue #1. Either you have an intermittent wiring problem with the ABS module, or the module itself is bad. The C2200 code makes me suspect the latter. Find the module, check the connector for obvious problems, replace the module if the connector looks good.

I would bet your wheel speed sensors and transmission are fine. Wheel speed signals go through the ABS module to the speedometer, but they are also used by the transmission to determine shift points. When the ABS module is not passing them on to the other modules you get exactly what you have.

I think this is about the cheapest option so far
